Camden, TN - The courthouse square in Camden (Benton County, TN) was the scene of a massive demonstration opposing the spending of 10 million dollars for a new jail. The Benton County Commission violated the Sunshine Law by holding an illegal special-called meeting.

The commission discussed the plans for a new jail that will burden the taxpayers with over 20 million dollars in new debt when one considers all the ancillary cost involved.

As the meeting progressed it was obvious the STALE MANTRA continued that the same old firm and plan was still in play. The citizens of Benton County were not permitted to address the commission. Absolutely nothing was decided at this meeting. Please remember to attend the meeting on Monday July 16th when a vote will be taken. (Submitted July 12, 2007)
