At a news conference in Singapore, Trump said Trudeau's comments during the G7 Summit in Quebec over the weekend would "cost a lot of money for the people of Canada".

Canada's prime minister earned Trump's ire by giving a press conference, after the USA president left La Malbaie, in which he spoke critically of U.S. trade policy and said Canada would "move forward with retaliatory measures" in response to Trump's move to impose tariffs on aluminum and steel.

Addressing reporters in Singapore ahead of Trump's summit Tuesday with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Pompeo said he was "unconcerned" that Trump's treatment of Canada - a close ally - boded poorly for his ability to forge peace with a longtime USA adversary.

Mr. Trudeau's office responded to Mr. Trump's tweets accusing the Canadian leader of "false statements" on Saturday, saying that the Prime Minister said nothing during the G7 summit that he had not said previously.

US President Donald Trump warned on Saturday at the G7 Summit here that the US will do whatever is necessary for his country to have fair trade relations with other countries. Trump said Monday that Kudlow was admitted to hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Former Conservative cabinet minister James Moore, a member of the government's advisory group on NAFTA, hailed Trudeau's approach, refusing to react to "the noise, the bluster, the Twitter, the emotional outbursts".
