Xiaomi has announced its latest flagship smartphone, the Mi 8 - and yes, just like every other phone this year, it has a notch.

Xiaomi, meanwhile, maintains that the transparent back on the Mi 8 Explorer Edition does show the actual components - here's what the company told The Verge.

Xiaomi claims the Mi 8 Explorer Edition is the first Android device to feature three-dimensional face unlock, using infrared light (the first device ever being the iPhone X, of course). The edge-to-edge screen still has room for improvement as there are some noticeable bezels, but overall, the Mi 8 certainly reminds you of the iPhone X, especially from the front. MIUI 10 will support 16:9, 18:9 and 19:9 aspect ratios and make use of the taller displays with newer gestures.

This gorgeous flagship is the one that comes with 3D face recognition AND an in-display fingerprint sensor so that the transparent back can truly shine. Also, a higher variant comes with 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage. Xiaomi's latest software boasts new AI camera features, as well as a redesigned recent apps interface that maximizes screen space.

Andrew Lincoln to Depart The Walking Dead
Everything is pretty unpredictable on The Walking Dead , but that totally means that at least he is safe for a while. What's more, his final run will take place over only six episodes.

The selfie snapper is 20 MP with f/2.0 aperture and also jumps the AI hype train with AI portrait selfies and AI Beautify. "Also new in the Mi 8 Explorer Edition is an emoji function that allows users to create their own animated emojis based on their facial expressions", Xiaomi says.

The top of the range Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition will be available for 3,699 yuan (~$577) at a later date that Xiaomi hasn't specified.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 will be priced at 2,699 yuan (£317). All of this is powered by a 3,120 mAh battery and is available in 4 GB RAM / 64 GB storage or 6 GB RAM / 128 GB storage options. The hardware specifications are somewhat similar, but things go much deeper than that, and you'll guys get to know everything in our specifications, features and pricing comparison. The Mi 8 SE also comes with a vertically-aligned dual camera setup on the back, and an LED flash which sits in-between those two cameras. Both of the versions of the Mi 8 comes with the Snapdragon 845 and 6.21-inch AMOLED display.
