"President Trump's reported meeting with Kim Kardashian West to discuss prison reform makes light of one of the biggest crises that we face in our country today", she said in a statement issued earlier on Wednesday.

Johnson was jailed for a first time, nonviolent drug offence in 1997, and is still serving a life sentence at Aliceville Correctional Facility, in Alabama.

Jared Kushner vowed to tackle prison reform from the onset of Trump taking office.

The news, originally reported by Vanity Fair, states Kardashian-West first became aware of Alice Marie Johnson's story after watching a Mic video.

'This was a road I never dreamed of venturing down, ' she wrote.

Kardashian West and Trump also posed together for a photo in the Oval Office.

It appears Kardashian wore this to remind White House staffers, Trump especially, that she means business.

Alyssa Milano has accused the New York Post of "unacceptable sexism" for a recent headline regarding Kim Kardashian's meeting with Donald Trump.

Kim Kardashian West is making headlines today - and it's not because of an Instagram photo, an episode of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" or her multiple business ventures.

"If you think about a decision that you've made in your life and you get life without the possibility of parole for your first time non-violent offense, there's just something so wrong with that", Kim told recently.

She added that getting Johnson's case on the White House's "radar" is a "huge step".

Kardashian West's husband, the rapper Kanye West, has drawn criticism for his support of the president, and was pictured wearing a cap bearing the slogan, "Make America Great Again", a phrase associated with Mr Trump. Johnson has been in prison for 21 years. She's not only voiced support for Johnson but for Cyntoia Brown, the sex trafficking victim who was imprisoned at the age of 16 for killing a child predator who paid her for sex.

"I've been fighting very hard and am willing to do what it takes to fight for what's right", Kardashian West told Mic in advance of the meeting.

As someone who used to dig through couch cushions for gas money and sold family jewelry to pay bills, I can honestly say I know what it's like to feel desperate enough to do whatever it takes to keep yourself afloat. She was sentenced to life without parole and now resides in Alabama's Aliceville Federal Correctional Institution. As her page notes, Johnson's clemency request was denied by the Obama administration.
