Area events will remember those who fell in service to the US

A Memorial Day ceremony is planned at the Antelope Valley Mobile Vietnam Memorial Wall, which is on display next to Phelan Community Park and the Phelan Pinon Hills Community Services District. From 10 a.m. -noon, kids games. Civil War dedication at Civl War monument in Railroad Park, Main St. and Central Ave., Ada.

Here's a list of Memorial Day events in the St. Paul area.

Harwich: Ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m.at Brooks Park on Oak Street.

At 8 a.m. Saturday, both the American Legion Post 323 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 912 will place hundreds of flags at veteran gravesites at Cedar Crest Cemetery, 3010 Ferry Road, and at Earthman Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8624 Garth Road.

Forest Lake: 9 a.m. Monday at Lakeside Memorial Park, 56 E. Broadway Ave. Runners to start in all white, and while running the course, paint will be thrown or sprayed on the runners. Sponsored by the Wrightwood Veterans Memorial Association, the 10th annual Wrightwood Veterans Memorial Service will feature speaker Marine Corps Lt. Colonel Kenneth Lee, the executive officer of Marine Corps Logistic Base, Barstow.

Legion members will be putting up the Avenue of Flags, and flags on the graves of all deceased Legion members, on Thursday the 24th at 5 p.m. A meal will be served following the service at the Edgewood Legion. Sacred Heart Cemetery, Route 30; 10 a.m. Seventh Day Adventist, 8:30 a.m.; Old Scottish Settlement Cemetery, 8:50 a.m.; Dover Catholic Cemetery, 9:10 a.m.; Yorkville Cemetery, 9:30 a.m.; Pilgrim and Trinity Lutheran Cemeteries, 10 a.m.; Sylvania Cemetery, 10:20 a.m.; Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 11 a.m.

The procession will continue down Grand Avenue until it reaches Maspeth Memorial Park at 69th Street, where a 2 p.m. memorial service will be held.

Denver's annual observance of Memorial Day will be held at the POF Hall just south of the state capitol at 1340 Sherman. He will recognize all the units participating in the ceremony and thank them for their service.

Greenleaf Memorial Park, 900 River Road, New Bern, is flying the Honor and Remember Flag through Memorial Day. The service will be moved to 11 a.m.at Coralville American Legion, 901 Second St., in the event of rain. It is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. on May 28.

On Monday, a pancake breakfast will be served from 8 a.m.to 12:30 p.m. "That's why we fire rifles on Memorial Day and not on Veterans Day".

Mendota Heights: 10 a.m. Monday at Resurrection Cemetery, 2101 S. Lexington Ave.

The town of Windsor and the American Legion will hold the town's annual Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday, May 28, at Lakeview Cemetery, 32815 Colo. 257. Barbecue will be held after the service at the Legion. Gay ad Fran Bowden, Certified Lay Ministers for the United Methodist Church, West Union will deliver the message "They Lived Among Us" in the church at 9:00 a.m. A food and bake sale is also taking place.

Pamlico County's Memorial Day observance is slated for Monday at 10 a.m.at the Pamlico County Courthouse in Bayboro.

Jake was lead soloist for the Pride of the Huskies Marching Band's record setting State Marching Band Competition performance & their subsequent invitation to play at the State Football finals.

Following the parade, a half hour memorial service will be held at the Kentwood chapter of Disabled American Memorial Park at 355 48 St. SE.

Also performing patriotic music will be the Carolina East Singers, directed by Susan Bailey, and Croatan High School Band, directed by Kim Barclift.

Waynesfield - 9 a.m. parade at the American Legion, 104 W. Wapakoneta St., traveling west to the cemetery. Past events have included guest speakers, local dignitaries, certificate presentations, vocal performances and taps.

Friday - A Memorial Day program with local veteran groups and Racine Honor Guard will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 25, at St. Monica's Senior Living, 3920 N. Green Bay Road, Caledonia.

The Wings Over the Rockies Museum will be honoring veterans from all military branches by placing commemorative bricks in its Runway of Honor under the B-52.
