Unbeaten middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin won his 20th straight title defense with a second-round knockout of Vanes Martirosyan on Saturday night in Carson, Calif.

The Kazakh fighter defeated Armenian-born Vanes Martirosyan at the StubHub Center - the home of LA Galaxy - in California.

But Golovkin took care of matters in the second, with a flurry of power punches that floored Martirosyan after 1 minute 53 seconds. Canelo Alvarez quickly blamed the failed drug test on contaminated meat he ate in his home country of Mexico.

Gennady Golovkin as a massive favorite at tonights fight against Vanes Martirosyan proved once more that boxing odd-makers though not ideal still knows their stuff very well.

"Everybody want second fight, second step". Martirosyan's right knee also touched the canvas before GGG delivered the final punch, which has disqualified fighters in the past, but it did not happen in this particular case.

"I'm ready", said Golovkin. The Nevada state athletic commission, which had jurisdiction over the contest, suspended Alvarez until 17 August, clearing the way for a September rematch.

Security forces also burst teargas shells to disperse the demonstrators at several places in the downtown and civil lines. Similarly, on Friday also terrorists shot dead a civilian and injured his wife in north Kashmir's Sopore town.

"This is a sport to him, and the sport is the most important thing", said Golovkin's trainer, Abel Sanchez. Golovkin retained possession of the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association middleweight titles.

The Golovkin-Martirosyan was certainly not in the same class as a Golovkin-Canelo fight. Both would provide an intriguing matchup for Golovkin, who already expressed his intention of breaking Hopkins' title defense record.

Martirosyan fell face first in his own corner as referee Jack Reiss tolled the count. Nine years.I have 11 belts. "I've been killing myself for the last two years, just thinking, 'What mistakes did I make, or what did I do to deserve this, to be inactive outside of the ring?' This fight is everything I've dreamed of, and I can't wait to show it to the world".

Yet, if all goes to plan and the challenge of Martirosyan is handled as comfortably as expected, without injury or drama, then Golovkin may find himself in an ideal position.

With no disrespect to Golovkin or Loeffler, Martirosyan's aim is to put on the best performance of his career, ruin the plans for the possibility of the Golovkin-Alvarez rematch being rescheduled for September and to shock the world. The veteran boxing writer said WBC light middleweight champ Jermell Charlo and WBO middleweight titlist Billy Joe Saunders are seriously being considered.
