Warmer with sunshine for May Bank Holiday weekend

Forecasters are predicting long spells of sunshine over the next few days as Britain enjoys one of its hottest May Bank Holiday weekends in recent memory.

But Met Office forecaster Sophie Yeomans said: "There is an area of warm air pushing up from the south which could give warmer weather over the bank holiday weekend".

She said: "It will be a mostly warm and sunny bank holiday weekend for most, with showers edging in from the north-west over western Scotland and western Ireland". Still some thicker cloud in the more rural west may produce drizzle at times. Highest temperatures of 12 to 14 degrees with moderate to fresh southwest breezes. Things will gradually brighten up with some sunny spells developing. Under the cloudier skies, 9-13c will be more like it. However, there'll be a risk of some patchy light rain or drizzle at times near Connacht and Ulster coasts.

Today will be mostly cloudy with loads of drizzle, which is our least favourite type of rain.

Despite the wet start to the week, with the bank holiday approaching, Ms Kent said across the south east of the United Kingdom it "promises at the moment to be dry" with "increasing amounts of sunshine".

Giants reportedly tried to move Ereck Flowers during NFL Draft
Apparently the only people in the National Football League surprised at this news is the front office of the Giants. NY opted to continue bolstering its line by drafting guard Will Hernandez out of UTEP in the second round.

Sunday will be dry with good sunny spells. It will be mainly dry.

We'll all be delighted to hear that temperatures will top out at 19 on Friday, with lows of just 14 in some areas, before the mercury falls to just between eight or 10 come nightfall. Again I wouldn't rule out a few showers popping up.

There's been a lot of talk this week about a possible heatwave this weekend, but we've been pretty sceptical, especially when we looked out our windows this morning.

"However I'm optimistic that we will see very little (if any) rainfall, some decent sunshine, light winds and temperatures up to 17°C on Saturday and Sunday".
