Police standoff at CT town ends in explosion

The woman, whom authorities say was severely beaten, managed to escape the Wallingford, Conn., house and notify police around 2:30 p.m. - about six hours before the explosion happened, the Hartford Courant reported.

Police were attempting to negotiate with the man when a barn behind the home exploded, according to the AP.

He said he know that at least 4 of the officers were North Haven officers.

Yale New Haven Hospital spokesman Mark D'Antonio said late Wednesday that all seven patients were being evaluated and their conditions were not immediately known.

None of the injuries to the officers were considered life-threatening, the Associated Press reports. State police said the suspect had not yet been apprehended and called it an active situation.

A house in North Haven exploded Wednesday night and a massive fire is burning.

According to the North Haven First Selectman Mike Freda, 6 officers were injured in the explosion.

State police is assisting with the investigation. The explosion occurred as police and a SWAT team were outside dealing with a report of a barricaded person related to a domestic violence incident.

Video shows police rushing to the scene and a raging fire. Meanwhile, firefighters rushed to the scene to battle the blaze as plumes of thick black smoke covered the neighborhood after the blast. There will be no access to side streets in the area and residents are asked to avoid the area all day. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded to the scene.
