He alleged that it was likely that the victim had been killed as part of an internal Palestinian dispute.

Israel says it is doing what it must to defend its borders and accuses Hamas, the Islamist militant group which rules Gaza, of staging riots and using the crowds as cover to try to carry out attacks.

Hamas described Palestinian engineer al-Batsh only as a "loyal" member and a "scientist of Palestine's youth scholars", but it is generally acknowledged he was also a senior figure in the body's military wing.

"This man was no saint and he didn't deal with improving infrastructure in Gaza - he was involved in improving rockets accuracy. I assume that's also what occurred in this case".

Malaysian police say the 34-year-old al-Batsh was gunned down early Saturday by two assailants who shot at least eight bullets from a motorbike as he was heading to a mosque for dawn prayers in Kuala Lampur. Gaza protesters remain within Gaza: they have not been able to cross the fence. "This is an worldwide issue", police chief Mazlan Lazim said.

Witnesses at the scene had told him that the two suspects had "European features", the ambassador told Reuters.

He said investigation on Dr Fadi's murder was in progress by taking into account various aspects.

However, he did not respond directly when asked if Israel was behind the killing.

Yet that narrative quickly evaporated as Hamas admitted Abtash was an important member of the group. "So [Israel] think he is risky".

The Linked-In Profile for al-Batsh, whose name appears transliterated in some reports as al-Batash or Albatsh, listed his current academic employment history. When the assassins spotted him, they fired 10 shots at the 35-year-old victim.

Mr Batsh's father, Mohamed, has accused Mossad of killing his son.

Israel has long suspected Hamas officials have trained and developed new technologies in Muslim-majority Malaysia. Iran has accused Mossad and the Central Intelligence Agency of ordering the killings.

After Friday's clashes between Palestinian protesters and IDF forces along the Gaza-Israel border, the IDF is blaming Hamas and claiming that the terror organization is "making use of civilians, youth and children to cover and carry out terror operations created to sabotage security infrastructure".

The only thing Palestinians have done, however, is throw rocks at their enemies, light tons of tires on fire, the black smoke from which helps block the visibility of Israeli forces, and attach rags lit on fire to kites that were then flown across the border to Israel.
