The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Inducts The Class of 2018

Ric Ocasek previously told Rolling Stone that Benjamin Orr "would have been flipped out" by the band's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in Cleveland.

The ceremony ended with legendary rock band Moody Blues' induction and performance.

Their die-hard fans pushed for years for them to be nominated, citing their influence on bands like Yes, Genesis and Rush - all Hall of Famers.

"When the band first started, Ben was supposed to be the lead singer".

Simone was a leader in pushing for civil rights and influenced everyone from Aretha Franklin to Alicia Keys.

Presenting blues, jazz, R&B, pop and folk artist Nina Simone was Mary J. Blige.

A classically-trained pianist, Simone is often referred to as "The High Priestess of Soul". He said he always protected Simone, and continues to do so.

Simone died in 2003. Her brother, Sam Waymon, accepted the induction on his sister's behalf.

The frontman said though he and the other current members haven't spoken to Sambora since he left the group, he invites the performer, along with Such, to be part of the Rock Hall festivities.

Illsley thanked the entire band and described the group as "a collective, a brotherhood". "The Moody Blues took me from childhood to adulthood as a disciple", she said.

For their live set, The Cars, with Weezer's Scott Shriner on bass, performed hits "My Best Friend's Girl", "You Might Think", "Moving in Stereo" and "Just What I Needed". "He referenced a new Rock Hall Induction category noting six influential songs, including Link Wray's Rumble", Chubby Checker's "The Twist" and Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild". Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard and guitarist Felicia Collins (who plays guitar in the Marie & Rosetta stage show) performed in honour of another 2018 inductee, Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
