Timeline on risky changeover to freezing rain and sleet in southern MI

Tomorrow, weather forecasters say freezing rain will hit the region before changing to rain Sunday evening.

Two things are going on in weather this afternoon for southern MI. However, weather forecasters are expecting freezing rain to return to Peel Region.

A freezing rain warning is in place for Peterborough and southern Peterborough County, Lindsay and southern Kawartha Lakes, and Northumberland County, with an ice storm forecast for Sunday.

"However, freezing rain will likely become widespread again".

Ice storm likely this weekend.

Gusty winds will also develop and combined with some accumulating ice can cause some downed trees and power lines. Significant ice build up is possible on Sunday. It will bring a combination of heavy rain, wind, sleet and freezing rain to West Michigan.

Hydro One says it has crews ready to respond to outages 24/7, and additional resources are on standby this weekend.

Toronto's Pearson Airport advised passengers to check their flight status before leaving, with hundreds of flight cancellations and delays being reported by Saturday afternoon.
