U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday the National Security Council would meet and that decisions on Syria will be made "soon".

The Syrian president added that the threats endanger global peace and security and that military action would only contribute to the "further destabilization" of the region.

Senior Russian figures have threatened to meet any United States strikes with a response.

Russian Federation has blamed the suspected chemical attacks on the Syrian opposition forces.

"Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria", Trump tweeted Wednesday.

Mr Trump's decision to announce in highly inflammatory language on Twitter that missile strikes are imminent, rather than retaining an element of surprise, raised eyebrows among military chiefs.

Trump's comments about poor relations with Russia echoed what the Russian foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, said recently in response to the wave of diplomatic expulsions of Russians from the United States and other countries, according to a Reuters report.

Trump berated Russian Federation for partnering with an "animal" like Syrian Dictator Bashar al-Assad, who is suspected of using chemical weapons in the ongoing civil war in Syria.

Theresa May has summoned an emergency meeting of the Cabinet to discuss the crisis over Syria as Donald Trump signalled the United States was ready to launch air strikes against the regime of Bashar Assad.

However, warning of an imminent strike could force US military officials to modify their list of potential targets - which could range from airfields or chemical storage sites to locations in Assad's backyard of Damascus depending on the intended message.

Mr Trump himself has in the past repeatedly criticised other United States leaders for telegraphing actions to adversaries, and he refused to offer advanced details, for example, on his strategy for dealing with North Korea. But it won't be in position to launch attacks on Syria for at least a week, officials said.

General Mattis did not answer a question about whether he was concerned about telegraphing U.S. moves in Syria.
