The Israeli military estimates that about 10,000 Palestinians participated in the latest round of weekly protests on the Gaza-Israel border and says it's a significantly lower turnout than in previous rallies in the past two weeks.

Israel has launched three devastating wars on the strip since 2007, leaving hundreds killed and thousands injured.

At a protest camp there, a large Israeli flag was placed on the ground for demonstrators to walk on. In additions, hundreds of Palestinians have been wounded by Israeli fire since March 30.

Israeli forces have shot dead at least 31 Palestinians, including a journalist, and wounded many hundreds since the protests began, drawing global criticism of the lethal tactics used against the protesters. At one camp east of Gaza City, rioters carried on their shoulders a coffin wrapped in an Israeli flag bearing the words "The End of Israel".

"I am not afraid of death because there is no life in Gaza already".

The marchers are protesting against the blockade of the enclave, but are also asserting what they say is a "right of return" of Palestinian refugees and their descendants to the areas occupied by Israel.

The first two Fridays - with far less on intervening days - saw tens of thousands gather near the border with Israel at five locations. Israel says snipers only target the main "instigators".

Mattis says: 'I believe there was a chemical attack in Syria'
Recently, the Russian ambassador to Lebanon has vowed that Russia will shoot down any USA cruise missiles launched at Syria. Mattis was referring to worldwide investigating teams from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

"The IDF will not allow any breach of the security fence, which protects Israeli civilians, and will continue to operate in order to prevent terrorists who are involved in these acts of terror", the IDF said in a statement.

While the Israeli army indicated that it would investigate the conduct of its forces during the protests in Gaza, Israel's investigations have consistently fallen short of global standards and hardly ever result in criminal prosecution.

The Israeli government warned that they would use armed force, but such a warning holds no legal or moral value since they were simply saying that they-the Israeli political establishment-would not recognize non-violent protests.

"Joining such protests brings us closer to returning to our homes that we were forced to leave", she said, holding stones in her hand.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society also reported that one of its medics was shot in the knee.

Some 350 Gazans were treated for injuries, including 59 from live fire, Palestinian authorities said. The United States is due to move its embassy to Jerusalem on the same day, a plan roundly condemned by the UN General Assembly.
