Why China is confident it can beat Trump in a trade war

Pres. Trump said the stock market might endure "a little pain" as he protects USA trade interests, and Treasury Secretary Mnuchin told CNBC he was not focused on short-term market swings and conceded the possibility of a trade war with China.

A trade war will hurt mostly the USA economy, because we have declared war on nearly all of the entire rest of the economic world.

President Donald Trump said on Thursday he had instructed USA trade officials to consider $100 billion in additional tariffs on China, again intensifying up tensions with Beijing. They therefore get tremendous perks and advantages, especially over the U.S. Does anybody think this is fair. This is in addition to the proposed 25 per cent import tariffs worth Dollars 50 billion on some 1,300 Chinese products being imported into the US. We were badly represented.

Finally, the yield on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury note fell 5 bps to 2.78%, Comex gold gained 0.6% to $1,336.10/oz. and U.S. WTI crude oil closed 2.3% lower at $62.06/bbl.

Beijing will fight take "comprehensive countermeasures" if Washington continues with "unilateral and protectionist policies" on trade, a Chinese official said on Friday.

Continued rants from the President about China, the trade inequity etc., but I am willing to bet this president and his daughter are still having their branded goods produced in China. "President Trump's trade war means all three products will now be subject to a 15 per cent tariff by China".

"If the United States disregards the objections of China and the global community and persists in unilateralism and trade protectionism, the Chinese side will follow through to the end, at any cost, and definitely fight back resolutely", a spokesperson was quoted as saying.

For Trump, however, they were an excuse to escalate the dispute. That leaves the U.S. government with a lot more Chinese exports to potentially target with tariffs.

Since Trump started his criticism of Amazon, the company has lost more than $37 billion in market value.
