Juliet Rieden, The Australian Women's Weekly's editor-at-large and royal correspondent, is now on tour with Charles and Camilla in Queensland as the royal couple attend various events as part of their commitment to opening the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Prince Charles is due to officially open the Commonwealth Games on behalf of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, on Wednesday night.

The duo will take a stroll through the Botanic Gardens just after 1pm.

Excited onlookers yelled out "Prince Charles!", before the royal couple split up to go to opposite sides of the barrier to shake as many hands as possible, with hundreds getting up close to the royals, during a break in the rain.

The royals will end their afternoon engagements with a visit to Lady Cilento's Children's Hospital where they will meet individuals involved with Juiced TV, Australia's first television program made by hospital patients.

For the event, Prince Charles will read a "secret message" that will be removed from a baton that has toured the former British Empire nations that make up the Commonwealth.

Rupert Murdoch offers to sell Sky News to Disney to appease regulator
It added: "As the regulatory process remains ongoing, shareholders are advised to take no action at this stage". Disney would buy Sky News regardless of whether its proposed acquisition of Fox's assets proceeds.

"It's the Prince of Wales' seventh visit to Queensland and his 16th visit to Australia", Australian Monarchist League chairman Philip Benwell told 9 News. Prince Charles will also travel to Cairns to visit the HMAS Cairns where he will present the Gloucester Cup to the company of HMAS Leeuwin in recognition of their achievement of providing the highest level of overall proficiency. He will then attend a function celebration the 90th anniversary of the Royal Flying Doctor Service and visit the Daintree Rainforest.

Penelope Edwards spoke with Camilla, who asked about the Commonwealth Games, the reason for the official royal visit.

Although Camilla will accompany the prince, she cuts her trip short. "She's so handsome and I told her so".

"Until that's settled and people are clear about what a republic would bring I think it's quite hard to generate a really strong campaign and strong embrace of a republican position".

Charles and Camilla have boarded a flight from Wagga Wagga after spending the past few days with friends on a farm in Gundagai in regional NSW.

The opening ceremony featured a performance from Australian singer and former Neighbours star Delta Goodrem, as well as nods to the country's indigenous culture and the Gold Coast's famous surfing lifestyle.
