Terrorists killed in Srinagar encounter belonged to IS linked group

According to the police here on Friday, the encounter with terrorists took place on Thursday night in Balhama area where the terrorists had taken shelter in a house after attacking a local BJP leader.

A statement issued by the police here said that the militants had attacked the security men guarding the BJP activist while he was visiting Arsh Institute at Khonmoh.

Two militants were killed by the security forces yesterday. The terrorist has been identified as Abu Hamas, a top commander of Ansar Ghazwatul Hind, the Al Qaeda cell in Kashmir.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar district Imtiaz Ismail Parray told news agency GNS that the body was recovered by the search party.

"Two militants have been killed in the ongoing operation but their bodies have not been recovered so far", CRPF PRO Kashmir Division Rajesh Yadav said. "The site is being cleared by the BD (Bomb Disposal) squad".

Meanwhile, a shutdown is being observed in Aghanzpora and adjoining villages of Awantipora.

All shops, business establishments, government and private offices were closed in Tral, Awantipora, Balhama and Khanmoh areas and public transport was off the roads.

The body of a third militant was recovered from the debris at encounter site at Balhama area of Khanmoh. He was immediately hospitalized where his condition is said to be out of danger.
