With production expected to begin early next decade, the E-Tron GT will be the Audi Sport competitor to the high-performance Tesla Model S. The new E-Tron will be built at Audi's Bollinger Hofe facility near Neckarsulm, Germany, where the R8 supercar now resides.

In a subsequent statement issued on Twitter, Audi Sport described the darkened image as a "sneak peek into the electrified future of Audi Sport - the first draft of the prototype Audi e-tron GT". One of the largest changes that is nearing release is the e-tron, Audi's newest electric SUV that it plans on launching in the near future. It may be a rough year for Audi, but the brand may be in a good position in the future.

Not much else is known, but the auto will likely share more than a little DNA with Porsche's Mission E which will precede the E-Tron by a year or two. As a sporty spearhead, the premium manufacturer announced at its annual press conference a highly dynamic, four-door Gran Turismo with purely electric drive. Called the e-tron GT, the four-door electric sedan will rival the Tesla Model S when it launches in global markets in 2020, according to a report by ACI.

The Sooners are the first team since 2005 to get an at-large with only 16 wins and they went just 1-8 against RPI top-50 teams. UConn defeated Louisville and Notre Dame in the regular season and lost to Mississippi State last season in the Final Four.

The much lower, sleeker e-tron GT won't follow immediately, but is likely to arrive in the early years of the 2020s. Audi is working with Porsche on new vehicle architectures to accommodate new electric vehicles.

First came the Tesla Model S, followed by the Model X. Once it arrives, the GT will be Audi's e-tron flagship vehicle.

Separately, Audi sales chief Bram Schot said the luxury carmaker is targeting a share of electric-car sales of between 30 and 35 percent of its overall deliveries by 2025 when it plans to offer about 20 electrified cars on sale. Given that it expects to launch 20 new models, including redesigns to its existing lineup, a newest Q8 SUV, and potentially a plethora of offerings to the electrified sector, this equates to a new model roughly once every three weeks.
