The Compton native's relatively late to the movie game and has already got some pretty impressive films under her belt like Selma, 13, and more recently, A Wrinkle In Time.

The main cast includes Storm Reid, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine, Levi Miller, Deric McCabe, Zach Galifianakis and Michael Peña.

When DuVernay set out to bring A Wrinkle In Time to the screen, Coogler said he watched while working across the hall on Black Panther. There's no word on the film's production budget, but unless it was made for a couple million dollars, it won't make it out of this sticky situation.

According to CNN, this is the first time that that two films driven by black directors with budgets exceeding $100 million have managed to clinch the top two box office spots.

With Coogler's most recent film, Black Panther, speeding closer to $1 billion, the 31-year-old filmmaker from Oakland took time away from celebrating to write a touching ode on ESPN W to his friend, peer and fellow creative.

American Idol 2018 Starts Tonight On ABC
During its vacation and shift to another, happier, "family-friendly" network, American Idol has not lost that mean streak. They are not as pointed as they could be in offering criticism, which in turns takes some of the shine off their praise.

A month after Black Panther showcased black excellence in the form of a superhero movie, A Wrinkle in Time is hoping to do the same through a beloved American children's novel.

The Strangers: Prey at Night also debuted this past weekend to the tune of $10.5 million. Directed by Johannes Roberts, the horror sequel to 2008's "The Strangers" stars Christina Hendricks, Martin Henderson, Bailee Madison and Lewis Pullman. Dropping 52% in attendance to $8.1 million, the film was knocked it into the #4 spot.

It fared slightly better than Nash Edgerton's action-comedy Gringo, starring David Oyelowo, Charlize Theron, Joel Edgerton and Sharlto Copley, which took in just $2.6 million in 2,404 theaters or around $1,000 per theater.

If our beliefs paralyze us from participating in the systems, what good are they?
