The same goes for Thomas, Alix and the No. 3 seed Seminoles, who would cross paths with Wilson's Gamecocks in the Sweet 16. Last season, UConn came into the NCAAs as the overwhelming favorite before losing to Mississippi State in the Final Four.

To them, you can't spell miracle without ACL, which sidelined four Notre Dame players - senior forward Brianna Turner, senior point guards Mychal Johnson and Lili Thompson and freshman forward Mikayla Vaughn - before the turn of the New Year, and even as far back as last March for Turner.

The Four #1 seeds are UConn (Albany Region), Louisville (Lexington Region), Mississippi State (Kanas City Region) and Notre Dame (Spokane Region).

During its vacation and shift to another, happier, "family-friendly" network, American Idol has not lost that mean streak. They are not as pointed as they could be in offering criticism, which in turns takes some of the shine off their praise.

For those looking for a UConn-Mississippi State rematch, those two are on opposite sides of the bracket, so we could get just that in the national championship game. "We saw that past year".

UConn, which has been a No. 1 seed every year since 2007, opens up against 16-seed Saint Francis (Pennsylvania) on Saturday morning. "Notre Dame did have the top strength of schedule in the country and they did have the best strength of schedule in the country and they had nine more top-50 wins than Baylor and those were the reason that the committee put Notre Dame on that one line and Baylor on that two line". If the Irish win, they will host either 8th seeded South Dakota St or 9th seeded Villanova in Sunday's 2nd round. Two of those losses came to the Cardinals.

At No. 3 is Ohio State - coached by former McGraw assistant Kevin McGuff, who lost in the Sweet 16 to the Irish past year - and the No. 4 seed is Texas A&M, which defeated Notre Dame in the 2011 national title game. The Ducks made one of the great runs past year reaching the Elite Eight for the first time in program history.

OR coach Kelly Graves is very familiar with Spokane, having coached Gonzaga from 2000-1014, leading the Zags to a regional final in 2012.

Louisville won the ACC for the first time this season. The other No. 2 seeds had six (Texas and South Carolina) and four (Oregon) losses, making Baylor's record stand out among its counterparts. "Hopefully, some of those UConn fans who got so excited about what we were able to do past year will stay for the second part of Saturday's doubleheader and root us on". But of course both teams will have to navigate a tough road to get there.
