If you're a parent/guardian, you can now see how much time your kiddo is spending on the PS4 and set restrictions to control their play-time. The update is 459MB.

A new dashboard theme featuring the PS4's top leading ladies is now available, as Sony says no to pick-up artist Richard La Ruina. This is a feature aimed at parents looking to keep young kids' play time to a reasonable level.

The parental controls allow parents to restrict certain hours in the day, stopping children playing very late at night, for instance, along with allowing them to monitor how long games have been played for. Once a child is close to the time limit, a notification will pop up which should give the child enough time to save their game or finish that last boss.

The PS Plus tab highlights the free PS Plus games you own. Clicking on your name/avatar will list all applications that were purchased using your PSN ID. You will only be able to access this tab if you have an active PS+ subscription. This lets users hide apps or demos they don't want to show up in their library.

With this update, there is a new "Supersampling Mode" option added to the Video Output Settings menu that players can activate whenever. The biggest update to come with 5.50 is the support for supersampling on PS4 Pro.

This mode allows some games to render at a higher resolution and then be downscaled to match the HDTV - allowing PS4 Pro owners to leverage the benefits of an image clarity boost even if their PS4 Pro is not connected to a 4K TV. In other words, Supersampling will make games look better on HDTVs.

There are also a number of smaller additions in the 5.50 update. These can be imported from a USB storage device and can contain a team logo, team cover images, background image for the home screen, or image for the message group. If the update doesn't automatically install, go to Settings and find the System Software Update option. You'll then have an option to select the flash drive you have plugged into the PS4, and after choosing the photo you'd like, you can crop and move it around to get the ideal look. This 460MB update brings a lot of new goodies to the table, some of which we've been clamoring for since the console's release.
