The Governor instructed the State NPP to submit a letter of support signed by their National President and also the support signatures of both the MLAs at the earliest.

When asked how NDPP-BJP was going to run the Government in Nagaland when they won only 30 seats, Sarma disclosed that they already had the support of one JDU MLA and another Independent and that formed the simple majority qualifying to form the Government in Nagaland.

The party has also requested Chief Minister T R Zeliang to resign from his post and pave way for the NDPP-BJP combine to take charge.

"With the support of an Independent and the JD (U) member, we have crossed the halfway mark (in the 60-member House)".

Mr Rio, who refused to reveal details of the agreement sealed with the BJP on the representation of parties in the government, said the coalition would be called "People's Democratic Alliance".

The NDPP on Sunday exuded confidence that they would be able to form a stable government in the state as the numbers were on their side.

In Nagaland, the BJP was in alliance with the NPF for 15 years before tying up with the NDPP, a new party, ahead of this year's election. However BJP has ruled out an alliance with the NPF, and said it stood by the tie-up with the NDPP. "And when efforts are on to cobble up requisite numbers to form the government, the question of the CM resigning does not arise", NPF said.

Y Patton, elected BJP's legislature party leader on Monday, is likely to be the deputy chief minister.

The correction on Sunday gives the PDA an edge as the alliance on Saturday had added the support of an Independent, and the lone victor from the Janata Dal (United), which had inked an alliance deal with the NPF and the National People's Party (NPP) ahead of the counting day.

The NPF tried to swing the BJP in its favour, with Zeliang even reportedly threatening to withdraw from the alliance government in Manipur.

A neck and neck fight was on in Nagaland between NPF and BJP-NDPP alliance.
