Lewis Dunk and Glenn Murray scored two early goals to give the home side a comfortable lead, and while the North Londoners did manage to pull one back towards the end of the first half, it wasn't enough to salvage any points.

The Gunners are now 33 points behind league leaders Manchester City and 13 points behind fourth place Tottenham.

Ozil has struggled to make an impact at the Emirates this season, netting four times and providing seven assists in 24 Premier League matches.

Instead Arsenal betrayed the defensive frailties that have been a feature of their campaign and allowed Brighton to take control.

He jumped up between the opposition and put a strong header on the ball, beating Arsenal keeper Petr Cech in the 26th minute. Brighton's keeper deflected the shot, but it still went into the side netting.

North Korea's Kim and Seoul envoys discuss easing tensions
While the possibility of a summit between the two leaders was "discussed", Seoul said no agreement had yet been reached. The U.S. government, on the other hand, is eager to compel and cut off Kim Jong Un's country to give up its weapons.

Instead, Arsenal were repeatedly pushed back with Cech forced to save well from Gross before Dunk wastefully headed over the bar.

Koscielny nearly levelled the match just before the break, rattling the left-hand post with a firm header, and only a flying Ryan save stopped Mesut Ozil blasting home just before the hour mark.

- Arsenal have not kept a clean sheet in their last 11 Premier League games; their joint-longest such run in the competition (also 11 between December and February 2002).

"We are definitely hitting our best form at the right time", Brighton manager Chris Hughton said.

With Arsenal still going strong in UEFA's second competition, Wenger still has a chance to qualify for the Champions League, but will have to overcome AC Milan in the upcoming round of 16 before he starts to think about reaching the semis or the final.
