Asus wants to pack the performance of the Galaxy S9 and the design of the iPhone X into a $500 package.

Asus also announced a more compact 6-inch version of the ZenFone 5 called the ZenFone 5 Lite, although that won't be coming to the UK. Asus says that it has 90% screen-to-body ratio.

The battery is 3,300 mAh and the device runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

Asus didn't give exact dates for the new phones, but said that the Zenfone 5 Lite will come first in March. In comparison, Apple's anniversary edition phone aka iPhone X comes with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

But it seems like the new Asus ZenFone 5Z will be a real bargain compared to the Apple device - it costs just £499.99. RAM and storage are also variable with choices of 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage or 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage.

The new Zenfone 5 that Asus has launched today at the Mobile World Congress is nothing like its younger self. With the latest flagship Sony® IMX363 sensor, a 120° wide-angle secondary camera and AI-enhanced camera features - including Auto Scene Detection, real-time portrait effects, AI Photo Learning and real-time beautification - the ZenFone 5Z encourages creativity and frees the user to concentrate on the subject rather than the camera.

The Asus ZenFone 5 Lite doesn't have the notch, but it has dual cameras on both the front and back. For selfies, there is an 8-megapixel resolution, with an f/2.0 aperture, 84-degree field of view, and a 24mm equivalent focal length in a 35mm film camera.

Tech unicorn Dropbox files for US IPO
Dropbox noted in the filing that it is up against Amazon , Apple , Google and Microsoft in a competitive and fast-changing market. Dropbox's move to go public isn't all that surprising, but it is an important step for the company and the larger tech industry.

Asus has created their own Animoji-like feature which they are calling ZeniMoji which works exactly as Animoji except you can use in on live videos and it will event work with Facebook or Instagram's face filters. The ZenFone Max Plus M1, for example, is backed by a 4130mAh battery and is claimed to deliver up to 26 hours on standby time and up to 13 hours of video playback. The images spotted in the manufacturers manual shows dual-camera module on the device.

As previously mentioned, there's not a lot of difference between the ZenFone 5 and the ZenFone 5Z apart from some changes in the hardware department.

The ZenFone 5Z uses a Snapdragon 845 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage while the ZenFone 5 tones it down with a Snapdragon 636.

Gamers should probably opt for the ZenFone 5, because this not only has the Snapdragon 845, but also 8GB of RAM: twice as much as the other model. Like the mid-range 5 and and lower-tier 5Q, the 5Z offers two rear-facing lenses. The Zenfone 5Z is the premium model and it's priced at 479 euros ($585 / Rs 38,000), while the Zenfone 5 is cheaper than its sibling. For selfies, the Zenfone 5 Lite sports a 20MP primary sensor and wide-angle secondary sensor. Despite the 6.2-inch display, the devices come with the form-factor of a 5.5-inch smartphone and are covered in metal and glass all around. It runs Android Nougat-based ZenUI 4.0.

The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor (alongside a Snapdragon 430 variant) with 3GB/4GB RAM. There's a microSD card slot, and dual-SIM capability with dual VoLTE support.

Asus has made a decision to go with a dual SIM and microSD card slot for the phone and has placed a 20MP Sony IMX 376 sensor coupled with a 120-degree wide-angle lens and the front comes with a 16MP sensor and a 120 degrees wide-angle camera as well.
