Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu defended his Winter Olympic title in Pyeongchang on Saturday, becoming the first man to repeat as champion in 66 years.

Nathan Chen from the United States skating champion landed six quadruple jumps in at a stretch.

While these three gentlemen took home the medals in the 2018 Olympic men figure skating, it's mandatory to watch the epic free skate of Team USA's Nathan Chen. "I can find one word and that is happy", the 23-year-old, who also became the 1,000th gold medal victor in the history of Winter Olympics, added.

He scored a 111.68 in the short program, one measly point shy of his best-ever skate and some 30 points ahead of Chen, who had registered a rock-bottom 82.27. His domination of Friday's event was so complete that the arena was showered with Winnie the Pooh plush toys at the end of his routine.

He bowed to his coach Brian Orser after scoring a total of 317.85 points - a whopping 11 points better than teammate Shoma Uno, who earned the silver medal.

By claiming the gold and defending it, Hanyu joins an elite club of men's skaters who have won successive Olympic golds. "My tears were from my heart".

"I have no words right now", he said.

Reports indicate that two protesters were shot and injured while several others were teargassed to disperse the protest. Later, IDF and Gaza officials reported a series of Israeli airstrikes against terror training sites and tunnels.

"I think at first I need a five-minute break and a really stiff drink and then maybe, like a day or two off the ice, at least to dry out my costumes, and then we'll see", he said.

Hanyu had suffered an ankle injury in the fall and had not competed since October.

"Putting down such a rough short program and being so low in the placement, it just took all the pressure away from me", he said. Arguably with the best skating skills in the field, Chan started his program with a clean quad-toe jump, hit a triple Lutz-triple toe combination, but under rotated and fell on his triple Axel. But the country also celebrated the silver medal with Uno, who skated last to slip past Hanyu's training partner in Toronto, Fernandez.

If he was prematurely designated a gold medal contender for these Games because of his jumping ability, what Chen gained on this day should make him a legitimate one at the 2022 Beijing Games. That moved him up from 17th place, where he found himself after the short program. She slipped during a turn in the final stretch and settled for sixth place. I think I've got much better jumps in me. No other skater has ever landed six quads in the Olympics.

"It was sort of an anger thing", he said.

"And I wanted to be open and honest about it and fun with the media, it's a whole part of it that I wanted to enjoy and I enjoyed every single second".

"I knew at that point that I had literally nothing to lose, so I decided just to try it", Chen said. "I'll just go for it". He ultimately tallied an 87.47 technical component score and a 171.41 the overall free skate.
