The women's slalom event at the 2018 Olympic Games was postponed Wednesday because of risky winds. "They said we had to do it today".

The postponement of the women's slalom, which will now take place on Friday, meant three of the four Alpine events scheduled so far have not taken place on their original date.

He said it was good to finally get the skiing underway after races were delayed for two days due to high winds.

Such has been Shiffrin's domination of slalom - she has also won three World Championship crowns - a recent blip in her form, where she managed just one podium in her last six races, became a major debating point among followers of the sport.

Shiffrin is also set to race in the alpine combined (downhill and slalom) and may add the super-G and downhill depending on how she is feeling.

"It was a long and hard day today", said the former Norwegian racer, twice a super-G world champion.

"Mikaela Shiffrin is hard to beat, she can get a medal in the games in every discipline", said Holdener.

That super-G was originally scheduled for Thursday but was pushed to Friday once the men's downhill was moved.

The dominant figure in the technical events on the women's World Cup circuit, in which she heads the overall standings with 10 wins, including five in slalom, the 22-year-old is a strong favorite.

"We don't see great changes for tomorrow or Wednesday", men's chief race director Markus Waldner said at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre.

While her Giant Slalom results have been somewhat mixed this season, she has shown signs of her true potential with some of her best World Cup results in this, her preferred discipline.

The wind gusts have been strong enough to push people around; by evening, metal detectors outside venues and all signage were laid down on the ground, to prevent them from being picked up by the gusts.
