"Marvel Studios' Black Panther follows T'Challa (Boseman) who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king".

Industry estimates are pegging Black Panther to have a debut weekend that will earn between $120 and $150 million, according to Deadline.

The online ticket service said on Wednesday that Black Panther is now outselling its previous record-holder for presale, 2016′s Batman v Superman.

A group has made an event on Facebook called "Give Black Panther a Rotten Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes" that is encouraging people to go onto the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes and deliberately give the Marvel film an artificially low score.

The Wakandan royal can claim to be the first black superhero to land a standalone movie in the MCU and the first in mainstream American comics, having featured in The Fantastic Four in 1966.
