Israel PM to arrive on Monday on six-day India trip

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will embark on a six-day visit to India, starting from January 14.

It will be the second visit by an Israeli Prime Minister to India after a gap of 15 years since Ariel Sharon visited New Delhi in 2003.

Bala Bhaskar, the Joint Secretary WANA (West Africa and North Africa) division in India's foreign ministry, said "India and Israel's bilateral relationship has been expanding in the areas of agriculture, water, science and technology, innovation, start-up, space, education, culture, homeland security and defence", since the establishment of diplomatic ties.

He refused to give defence trade figures saying "they are not exactly measured like that and as such (there are) no exact figures".

India and Israel will reaffirm their already strong economic and defence ties, and Netanyahu will also emphasising the bond that the two nations, which celebrated the silver jubilee of their diplomatic relatons previous year. India has a long and wide ranging defence cooperation with Israel.

"New areas of cooperation are actively being explored".

"There's no way you could have seen this because I just drew it", Netanyahu said. Netanyahu explained in Jerusalem on Thursday that the two may meet before March.

Modi had visited the Jewish state in July past year, becoming the first Indian premier to do so.

Both Modi and Netanyahu will visit two centres of excellency in Ahmedabad and inaugurate one. They will also visit the innovation centre.

Netanyahu's trip "is the grand finale to the celebrations of 25 years of (the) growing partnership between India and Israel".

The Mumbai leg includes Netanyahu's film industry outreach - Shalom Bollywood, an interaction with the Jewish community and a meeting with business heads. "The visit will focus on the progress made between India and Israel since Prime Minister Modi's visit to Israel last summer, and on shaping the next 25 years of relations between our countries and our peoples".
