Sports Illustrated's Peter King adds that while the Lions favor Patricia over Houston Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel for their head coaching job, Patricia is now leaning towards the Giants' head coaching position, meaning Vrabel could eventually land in Motor City.

However, this is a considerable turn from a recent report that suggested Patricia would likely replace Jim Caldwell and join the Detroit Lions.

Earlier, it was reported that Patricia might join the Lions as head coach [VIDEO], replacing Jim Caldwell, who was sacked after the team missed the playoffs.

According to Pat Leonard of The New York Daily News, "all signs" point toward Patricia becoming the next head coach of the New York Giants.

The New York Giants and newly appointed general manager Dave Gettleman continue to do their due diligence in the search for franchise's next head coach.

The Lions are a bit of a red-headed step child in the National Football League, and the Detroit Free Press has pointed out Patricia spurning them for another head coaching job would be nothing new. Beginning his tenure in New England in 2004, Patricia was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2012.

On Wednesday, Leonard reported that "all signs" pointed to the Giants hiring the Super Bowl-winning defensive coordinator. Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks could enter the mix as well, as he hits the interview circuit this week.

It's an interesting development for one of the NFL's hottest coaching candidates.

In those six years heading the defense, Patricia has helped the Patriots win a pair of Super Bowls and make the AFC title game each year. It now seems that a decision from the Giants is the big domino to fall.
