"Captain Marvel" Movie Adds "She's Gotta Have It" Actress To Cast

Marvel looks to have added She's Gotta Have It star DeWanda Wise as a co-star in Captain Marvel.

In an intriguing piece of casting, the star of Spike Lee's Netflix series remake She's Gotta Have It, has been hired for Captain Marvel in a key role Her role remains unnamed for now, but we can have a little fun with the speculation. Recently, she adopted the mantle of Captain Marvel for herself.

Captain Marvel, which is directed by Mississippi Grind filmmakers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, will be DeWanda's first feature. She is now fresh off a role in She's Gotta Have It on Netflix, but no word on who she is playing is available at this time.

She's fought alongside some of Marvel's greatest heroes and was a longtime member of the Avengers, eventually becoming their leader after being chosen by Avengers founder Janet Van Dyne.

In the comics, Captain Marvel is the alter ego of Air Force pilot Carol Danvers, who becomes a hero when her DNA is fused with an alien's after an accident. Rambeau's powers to shift between energy wavelengths and fly at near light speed would make her an exciting prospect in an all-out outer space romp, a ideal companion or even mentor to a burgeoning hero like Carol.

During her tenure, Monica did some big projects as she joined the Avengers and even came to lead the team.

Captain Marvel is due out in theaters March 8, 2019.

Wise will join the already confirmed cast including Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, and Ben Mendelsohn.
