Two large lottery jackpots up for grabs to start 2018

The cash value of the January 3 Powerball drawing will be $278.3 million.

The Powerball drawing is Wednesday for what will be the ninth largest jackpot in Powerball history.

"The cold weather hasn't stopped those wanting to buy lottery tickets", said Corby Mead, manager of the Stogie's Discount Tobacco & Beer Downtown Store at 17 Washington Huntington.

As of Tuesday morning, the Mega Millions jackpot is $343 million. For Powerball, it's one in roughly 292 million.

Classic Lotto's jackpot has increased to a relatively modest $26.3 million after no tickets matched Monday's winning numbers of 13-16-22-28-39-45 Kicker 118639. It has a $215 million cash option and the drawing is Tuesday evening. When a player wins, he or she is flown to the U.S. to collect the jackpot in person.

That makes it more likely for the grand total to roll into the next drawing.

theLotter's spokesman Austin Weaver: "theLotter sold 60% more tickets to Canadians in 2017 compared to 2016".

There have been eight Mega Millions jackpots worth at least $336 million.
