Pulwama encounter continues; 4 CRPF jawans, 3 terrorists killed

The gunbattle between the terrorists and security forces left two jawans injured.

The IG further said, the exchange of fire was going on till afternoon on Sunday.

Heavily armed militants ambushed the camp at around 2.10 am after hurling grenades and resorted to indiscriminate firing during which four CRPF personnel were killed.

With one of the three militants who had barged into the CRPF training centre at Lethpora still alive, reports said one CRPF man was killed in renewed gun-battle.

"There is quite possibility of similar type of attack on other camp also" CRPF said. Director General of Police S P Vaid termed the attack "unfortunate" and lashed out at Pakistan. Later two others were also killed in addition to the one who suffered cardiac arrest. They were trying to carry out the attack. The four-storey building consists of 3 blocks, and block-one is used for officer's family accommodation, the second block as main office while block three has been targeted by terrorists. IG Ravi said, this was deadliest Fidayeen attack by the Pakistani terrorists in recent times.

While there has been no official confirmation, IANS reported that Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) had claimed responsibility for the attack on the 185 battalion CRPF training camp in Pulwama district's Lethpora area. JeM statement issued to a local news agency in Srinagar stated the "blood of martyrs is yielding results".
