Multiple deputies down in Colorado, shelter in place ordered for area residents

The apartment complex, in Highlands Ranch, an affluent suburban community in the county, is described on its website as "one of the friendliest apartments" in the area. "It was nearly immediately after that" that the suspect shot the officers.

The Douglas County Sheriff has not yet released the identity of the fallen officer or those who were wounded.

Pelle posted on his personal Facebook page that "Jeff is finishing surgery". There was no immediate word on the condition of the injured officers or civilians. "Good news is that he was talking and walked out to ambulance under his own power".

The shooting happened in the course of the investigation at the Copper Canyon Apartments, a complex 16 miles south of Denver, the sheriff's office said, according to the AP. He called home, waking up his fiance.

The sheriff's office has issued a "Code Red", instructing residents in the area to shelter in place.

Due to this incident, the following agencies are on accident alert: Douglas County, Parker Police Department, Lone Tree Police Department, Castle Rock Police Department and Colorado State Patrol.
