Erica Garner, 27, who emerged as a controversial activist after the death of her father, Eric Garner, has died, a week after suffering an apparent heart attack.

Garner, 27, suffered from the effects of an enlarged heart after giving birth to her son three months ago, Snipes said. "We didn't deserve her", read messages from Garner's Twitter, now operated by a family member.

Garner was placed into a medically induced coma on December 23 after suffering a heart attack brought on by asthma.

"Her heart was bigger than the world", another tweet posted to her account read.

Garner became an activist and spoke out against police brutality after her father's death was caught on cell phone video in 2014. Eric Garner's pleas of "I can't breathe!" as he was put into an illegal chokehold by officer Pantaleo helped galvanized the Black Lives Matter movement. Erica Garner became a vocal advocate against police brutality.

"Whatever the asthma and the others attacked was a piece of the heart left". New York City reached a $5.9 million settlement with Garner's estate in 2015.

The Rev. Al Sharpton, in announcing Garner's death Saturday, says she fought for justice and was "a warrior to the end". She was always at rallies, she was always calling me, 'Reverend, we'll do this. She noted, in the same interview, that Kalief Browder's mother died of a broken heart.

In 2016, she met with President Obama after she took to Twitter to express her outrage that she was not given the opportunity to speak with the commander in chief at a town hall in the nation's capital.

"The police slaughtered her unarmed, peaceful father with an unlawful strangle hold and got off with nary a word", Brittany Packnett, a pioneer operating at a profit Lives Matter development and prime supporter of Campaign Zero, said on Twitter.

"In the event that anything she would need us to do in memory of her is continue battling for equity and continue battling for families", he said.

"My thoughts are with Erica Garner, her family and friends in hoping that she has a full recovery and rejoins the struggle for justice as soon as possible. Her heart was assaulted by a framework that would gag her father and not consider responsible those that did it".
