Talking to media after the incident, Kumari accused the constable of abusing and pushing her.

An Indian Congress legislator in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday hit a woman constable after she was stopped from entering the party office in Shimla and was slapped back by the police official. During his address at the Congress party meeting later, Rahul said, "I am not happy at it". Well, while this became quite a news, all that leaped the situation is the lady constable slapping her back at the moment. In retaliation, the constable also slapped the MLA.

Asha Kumari is the All India Congress Committee secretary and AICC in-charge of Punjab. "I will not tolerate indiscipline in the party". Thrice she (Asha) slapped on my face.

The incident happened on Friday outside the venue of review meeting being conducted by Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

The couple now face felony charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, and no drug stamp. Patrick Jiron posted 10 percent of his $100,000 bond and has been released from custody.

At a Congress meeting later, Rahul said it was not Congress culture to slap anybody.

The MLA later apologised, saying "the lady constable misbehaved, abused me and nearly beat me, but I should not have lost my calm". He met party legislators, party candidates and district presidents, to discuss what went wrong in the elections. Gandhi is in the state to review his party's performance in the recently-held Assembly polls that the incumbent Congress lost.

Assembly elections in the hill state were held in single phase on November 9.
