Virgil Van Dijk missing again as Southampton prepare £60m sale

Van Dijk, now 26, has made 11 appearances for the Saints this season, impressing in a season that has seen Mauricio Pellegrini's men struggle towards the bottom of the table.

However, with City manager Pep Guardiola reportedly lining up a £50 million (S$89.7m) move for van Dijk in the winter window and Liverpool set to revive their interest in him, tension seemed to have built up between van Dijk and Pellegrino again.

This summer, Liverpool made the costly mistake of "tapping up" Southampton star defender Virgil van Dijk, forcing the Reds to make an embarrassing public apology and effectively ending their pursuit of the player for the rest of the window.

Manager Mauricio Pellegrino said he was fit for selection on Saturday but has chose to leave him out once again amid speculation van Dijk wants to leave the St Mary's Stadium in the January transfer window.

Speaking on Van Dijk, Pellegrino told the media, "I decided that was best for this moment".

But top USA advisers have long retained that the U.S. remains committed to prioritizing a peaceful resolution to tensions with Pyongyang.

"Responding to taunts from Liverpool fans, Le Tissier wrote on Twitter: "[It] doesn't take Einstein to work that out [than Van Dijk will leave] after being left out the squad on Saturday whilst not injured!

'The manager decides what is the best. Van Dijk's future? I don't know, we'll have to wait, but I will repeat, there will be a lot of speculation around him. We win, draw and lose, with and without Virgil.

"In this squad, I have a lot of players that can play". The board chose to try to keep our best player at the club.

"We tried to do the best for the team", said the ex-Alaves coach, who endured sections of the travelling Southampton support at Wembley signing "you're getting sacked in the morning".
