Amazon Acquires Connected Security Camera And Doorbell Startup Blink

Amazon has acquired Blink, a provider of connected Wi-Fi home security cameras, as well as a new video doorbell introduced earlier this week. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed at this stage, but the retailer is making a serious push into smart home and connected security products. The video door-bell that costs $99 also comes in battery powered. That started with the Amazon Cloud Cam, a streaming video camera that requires mains power, and which is an instrumental part of Amazon Key, its home delivery service.

For the time being, all of these products remain under the Blink brand and aren't integrated with Amazon's many services (though they do support Alexa), which their possible integration with the home delivery system is just speculation for the time being.

In a surprise announcement, especially considering many companies are off for the holidays, Blink announced that it is being acquired by Amazon. The deal was announced today, and for the moment will see Blink continue to operate as-is, with no changes to the company's line-up. For that price you get two-way audio, motion detection, night vision, unspecified "HD video", smartphone video alerts, and that long, two-year lifespan off a pair of AAs, just as you'd expect from Blink.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident and said his thoughts were with the families of the deceased. The bus, which had reportedly departed from Sawai Madhopur station, crashed around 7am (2330 on Friday GMT).

Blink tells customers "nothing changes for now" as it continues to sell its own recently launched products under the Amazon umbrella. "As one of their distributors, we already know customers love their home security cameras and monitoring systems", Amazon said in an emailed statement.

No other further information was provided by the Company apart from all these.
