Jeep Teases New 2019 Cherokee

Up front, Jeep promises "even more fuel efficient powertrain options", and we think we see evidence of one of those powertrains in the interior photo. We previously learned that, aside from the new face, the 2019 Cherokee will receive the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that's good for 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, at least in the new Wrangler. Now Jeep has unveiled the refreshed 2019 Cherokee ahead of its debut next month at the Detroit Auto Show. The red SUV is likely the high-end Trailhawk variant because of the tow hooks poking out of the bumper and the high-mounted fog lights. The gauge cluster betrays an engine with a redline of 5,600 rpm, well below the power peak of either the base 2.4L Tigershark I-4 or the 3.2L Pentastar V-6 found in the current Cherokee. A new rear bumper and all-new taillights (that look to be fired by LEDs) complete the updates. The official pictures reveal a tweaked front end, which moves away from the sharp, pointed nose of the outgoing Cherokee in favour of a rounder, conventional look more in line with the latest Cherokee.

Inside, changes are minor.

Jeep's Bringing This Updated 2019 Cherokee To Detroit

The Cherokee distinguished itself not only within the compact SUV segment, but also within the Jeep lineup thanks to its totally radical, if not a little too provocative styling.

A rival to SUVs like the Land Rover Discovery Sport and higher-spec versions of the Volkswagen Tiguan, the next Cherokee trades the distinctive design of the outgoing auto for a look that's more similar to its siblings.
