Outage at Atlanta airport affecting flights in Louisville

More than 1,000 flights were grounded at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Foxx took to Twitter Sunday to express his frustration over the situation.

Delta said customers flying to, from or through Atlanta through Tuesday can make a one-time change to their travel plans for free.

"Whatever the cause, it feels like this one was compounded by confusion and poor communication", he said.

Airport officials said Georgia Power sent fix teams to the scene to work on the issue, and they had been there since 1:30 p.m. ET. It is not clear how many passengers have been affected by the outage on Sunday, but the airport's problems will undoubtedly cause ripple effects throughout the air transit system. It also damaged the backup system.

Georgia Power said they expected to have all electricity restored by midnight.

Some 80 to 100 planes got stuck on the tarmac, as powerless gates became unusable. All flights in and out of the airport were cancelled on Sunday night.

A flight headed from the Quad-City airport to Detroit today also was canceled, although she said no reason.

There are reports from people at the airport that flights are delayed and inbound flights can not deplane due to lack of power in the jetways.

The airport tweeted, "LIGHTS ON and delivering food and water to our passengers!"

Passengers stuck on the train that moves passengers between terminals were rescued by firefighters.

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport sends jets to 150 domestic destinations and more than 75 international destinations in 50 countries.

The airport serves an average of 275,000 passengers daily, according to its website.
