That changed with Super Mario Run previous year which, for the first time, was offered as a pre-order.

Apple will now let users pre-order apps before they are released for download.

According to a support page entry, which was earlier reported on by Digital Trends, if you have automatic downloads configured on your smartphone, your app will be downloaded to your device within 24 hours. In order for pre-orders to be available, users must be running iOS 11.2, tvOS 11.2, or macOS 10.13.2 or later. If the app was originally listed as $1.99 but the developer drops the price to $0.99 before the app's release, Apple will charge the user $0.99. Apps will have a "Pre-Order" label along with a tentative release date.

Any developer can place their app in the App Store for upto three months before its release. The release date must be at least two days in the future, but no more than 90 days in the future.

Facebook Messenger Instant Games to Get Live Streaming and More
The social media giant has catered this wish of its users as Facebook Now Allows You to Live Stream While Playing Games. Once the broadcast ends, the video will also get published to your profile for your followers and friends to view later.

Developers can start to build the hype for apps and games 90 days ahead of the official release date by listing it on the store.

Apple has since removed the fake app from its store but due to the popularity of cryptocurrencies it is likely that a similar situation could occur in the future on either the App Store or the Google Play Store. To pre-order an app, users just need to tap on the price and tap "pre-order" or tap the "Get" button if it's free. Developers should be able to take advantage of this new feature now. Then submit the app for review and once accepted you can make your pre-order page go live.

This is a rather nifty feature, as it can help with the promotion of an app while also giving the creators an idea of how popular their service can potentially become.

In that scenario, if you're out to dinner with friends and someone wants to pay you back using the service, you won't be able to reinstall it on your phone since it's not in the App Store.
