AC Milan have confirmed that they have sacked head coach Vincenzo Montella, with Gennaro Gattuso entrusted to lead the Serie A club in his stead.

AC Milan released a brief statement on Monday morning confirming Montella's sacking.

Montella was dismissed one day after a 0-0 home draw with Torino left big-spending Milan seventh in Serie A with 20 points from 14 games.

Gattuso, a former AC Milan midfielder, steps up from managing the club's youth side.

He will appear at a news conference at their Milanello training ground on Tuesday.

Derrick Rose leaves Cavaliers to handle "personal matter"
The report states there is growing uncertainty that Rose will return to the team from both inside and outside the organization. Rose signed a one-year deal with the Cavaliers over the offseason after being traded by the Bulls during the 2016 offseason.

Montella took to Instagram to bid farewell. "I tried to give all I have got for this club, but I accept the decision which has been taken".

"I thank the fans for their support, Fassone and Mirabelli for this opportunity and my staf for supporting me throughout". I would like to thank the players and you, the fans, for the attractive moments we spent together, hoping that Milan will get back up there where they belong.

It is now in seventh place in the Serie A standings and is coming off a draw against Torino on Sunday.

That is followed by a home game with Bologna and a trip to Hellas Verona before they host Atalanta on December 23 and end the year at Fiorentina.

There will be heavy pressure on Gattuso, who was a key cog in a team featuring Paolo Maldini, Andrea Pirlo and Filippo Inzaghi which won the 2003 Champions League by beating Juventus on penalties. "The fans don't need to worry".
