These days even that doesn't occur as players tend to live out their contract and then choose a new club and deal for themselves.

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini is set to move to Paris St Germain on a four-year deal, according to the Daily Mirror.

However, despite lengthy discussions with the board, Fellaini is no nearer to signing a new deal and Mourinho admits he's anxious he will quit at the end of the season.

The Portuguese boss, when asked if anything will be done by him to change the situation, he further added: "Nothing".

"I respect both - the player because the player has the right to decide his future".

Fellaini's contract with United is due to expire at the end of the season, meaning he will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club once the winter transfer market opens in January.

Asked if he was concerned Fellaini will move on, he said: "Yes, I am anxious he won't be here but I can do nothing - it is a discussion between the player and the board". He finishes his contract he has the right to decide his future.

"I just wait, wishing they will have an understanding, but it's out of my control".

Despite the speculation, the 30-year-old is set to be involved when Brighton arrive at Old Trafford on Saturday.

"He's an important player for me - a lot more important than you can imagine", he said back in September. "There is no more injury in the frame but fatigue, maybe a player that played his first match maybe he feels it a little bit".

"No, not ready (to start)", Mourinho said of Ibrahimovic.

At the start of an eight-day period in which United play Brighton, Watford and Arsenal in the Premier League, Mourinho has called on his supporters to show patience as they look to eat into Manchester City's commanding lead at the top of the table.

"Match after match, Champions League finished against Basel, we switch off and move to the Premier League".
