Basketball Teams Don't Show Up for NCAA Champions Event With Trump

The White House extended an official invitation to the University of SC women's basketball team seven months after winning the NCAA tournament.

Nearly as impressive as the athletes on hand was the performance of White House staff who quickly funneled the teams through pictures with President Trump and into the Oval Office for brief tours. At another point, joined by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, Trump bowed his head in prayer along with members of the Oklahoma softball team. The White House is holding Collegiate National Champions Day on Friday. There were two teams from the University of Maryland and four from the University of Oklahoma.

Absent from the ceremonies were the South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball team and the North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball team. USC and Staley said as of early October, they hadn't been invited for a visit.

Staley and USC announced Thursday night they had been invited to Washington D.C. on Friday but were unable to attend. "We'll go to the White House".

SC won the 2017 Women's NCAA Tournament, but isn't going to the White House.

SC has a game on Sunday, with a practice scheduled for Friday. Trump hosted the Clemson Tigers football team at the White House in June. "I'm here concentrating on my team and getting better".
