Paducah holds ceremony and parade for local veterans

Guest speaker will be Alice Kraatz, 12, who initiated the effort to include MI with other states that have a Vietnam Veterans Day.

The Denver Veterans Day Parade took place in downtown on Saturday morning.

The program will be held at 11 Dogwood Dell in Byrd Park. The parade will start at noon at the corner of Avenue E and Houston Street by the U.S. Post Office and travel west on Houston Street to San Saba and end at Milam Park.

The parade was followed by a brief ceremony in front of Mooresville town hall, lunch and a concert on the town hall lawn.

Man rams vehicle into students in Toulouse, arrested
At least three people were injured after a vehicle rammed into passers-by in Blagnac commune near Toulouse, southwest France. The suspect, a 28-year-old known to the police for minor offenses, was arrested at the scene and taken for questioning.

According to, Veterans Day originated as Armistice Day on November 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and November 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. The Boy Scouts will also be holding a flag retirement ceremony at 2 at the Whipple Senior Center.

On Sunday Braintree VFW Post 1702 will be holding a 5K walk and cookout with the walk starting at 9:30 a.m. on John F. Kennedy Memorial Drive.

Names of service members who died in the line of duty will be read during the honor roll reading.

WILTON: A service will be held at 10 the monument on Main Street, including a wreath-laying, speakers and a wreath dropped into Wilson Stream.
