Man rams vehicle into students in Toulouse, arrested

All three of Friday's victims, who were on a crosswalk when the ramming occurred, were in their 20s, with a 23-year-old woman the most seriously injured and two men aged 22 and 23 also hurt.

At least three people were injured after a vehicle rammed into passers-by in Blagnac commune near Toulouse, southwest France.

The man was arrested immediately.

The suspect, a 28-year-old known to the police for minor offenses, was arrested at the scene and taken for questioning.

According to reports the driver has a history of mental illness including acute schizophrenia.

Two men aged 22 and 23, and a 23-year woman who was in a more serious condition, were hit on a pedestrian crossing outside IGS College just before 4pm local time (3pm United Kingdom time), the reports said.

"At 15:54, a man driving a [Reanault] Clio auto presumably deliberately hit three people at a pedestrian crossing", Toulouse prosecutor Pierre-Yves Couilleau told BFMTV.

The AFP news agency quoted French police as saying it was a possible vehicle attack and that the driver was not on a security watch list.

Several post-18 colleges are located on the campus, including the International Institute of Trade and Development.
