Local schools honor veterans with joint assembly

Sheldon Saint Patrick Elementary School and the Sheldon American Legion Post 145 will present the Sheldon Veterans Day program on Friday morning, November 10th, at 11:00 a.m.at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sheldon.

"It's all about freedom and freedom in our country today", Navy Veteran Jerry Notaro said.

Su Valley Jr/Sr High School Principal, Lisa Shelby wrapped it up with encouraging words for everyone who attended the ever popular and uplifting Assembly that honors the many Veterans who call the Upper Susitna Valley home. The program will be at 9 a.m., also in the gym.

Hazleton Area High School held its annual Veterans Day breakfast and ceremony for local veterans. The luncheon honoring area veterans is from 11 p.m.to 1 a.m.at Hilton Garden Inn, 1501 S. Neil St., C. Marine Lt. Col. Matt Shortal, University of IL graduate in accountancy and former Navy Blue Angel pilot, is the keynote speaker.

The veterans day program in Sibley will be on Friday, November 10th at the Sibley-Ocheyedan High School.

Following the ceremony in the Village Park, all veterans and the public are invited to a luncheon at the American Legion Post at 400 East Ludington Driver on the east side of Farwell with a special menu featuring chipped beef (SOS). Brown County Veteran Services Officer Greg Peterson will be the keynote speaker. An "All-American meal" will precede the program in the high school cafeteria. The coins were designed by Veteran Student Services and the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs with permissions from UT Athletics and the various military branches.

Windsor of Savoy will hold a Veterans Day program at 1 p.m.in their Savoy Room.

Veterans will be provided breakfast at 7:15 a.m. Family and friends who are veterans are invited to join as the school celebrates their military service.

The Pennsylvania Military Museum will be open on Veterans Day with free admission for military veterans and their immediate family members.
