Dhinakaran faction alleges political vendetta, says IT raids won't intimidate them

IT department conducted the raid on the houses and office premises of sidelined AIADMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran, nephew of Sasikala and Managing director of Jaya TV Vivek. "We have been monitoring the activities of the TV channel as well as its senior officials", a senior I-T official told a leading news channel.

Speaking of the raids, the IT officials said that they were acting on a tip-off, which said that the channel had evaded taxes.

Jaya TV and Namadhu MGR were the mouthpiece of the ruling AIADMK but has become a strong critic of the state government following a rift between Sasikala and Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami.

In a case of alleged tax evasion, the raids at Jaya TV and Dr Namadhu MGR (Tamil newspaper) premises in Chennai were conducted by the Income Tax department, reported a leading news channel.

Searches were also being carried by the I-T officials at Vivek's residence in Chennai.

Raids are also being conducted at the Domlur residence of Pugazhendi, AIADMK Karnataka in-charge. We will not allow the party behind the raids to spread roots in Tamilnadu, ' he said.

Dinakaran, AIADMK leader and Sasikala's nephew, in a press conference termed the raids "political motivated" and said that the raids would not weaken his faction of the AIADMK.

Meanwhile, at Mannargudi in Tiruvarur district, raids were conducted at the houses and office premises of Sasikala's husband M Natarajan, her relatives including Mahadevan, Venkatesan and Divakaran and a former councillor of Thanjavur. They were among a number of locations connected to the Sasikala faction of the AIADMK.
