Trump Twitter Account Shut Down by Departing Employee

Trump has been a member of Twitter since March 2009 and has 41.7 million followers. The reason this happened?

Beyond the jokes, some experts were anxious by what the incident said about Twitter's security and the prospect of another employee taking control of Trump's account to send tweets on, say, North Korea or race that had consequences in the real world. For a full 10-11 minutes thousands of Twitter users were shocked, wondering if the President suddenly chose to stop his use of the social media platform and delete his account as well as all 36,300 tweets that he has accumulated over the last several years. We are continuing to investigate and are taking steps to prevent this from happening again.

President Trump's Twitter account went dark for a short time on Thursday evening in what the company described as "human error" by an employee.

The account was offline for about 11 minutes, during which Twitter users searching for Trump's account were met with a notice saying: "Sorry, that page doesn't exist!"

People have repeatedly suggested that the world would be safer if Mr Trump wasn't allowed to use Twitter. "We are conducting a full internal review", Twitter said in a tweet. The page mostly contains retweets of Trump's posts from @realDonaldTrump.

Ireland, who were initial favourites to host the tournament, are understood to have finished last in World Rugby's recommendation. The evaluation was carried out by a team of "internal and external functional area experts", against weighted criteria.

In June, Trump tweeted remarks aimed at MSNBC's "Morning Joe" hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski: "I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don't watch anymore)".

The earlier incident followed months of criticism directed at Twitter for how it handles the president's account. Accounts violating that rule may be subject to a temporary or permanent suspension, Twitter warns.

Roger Stone, a longtime associate of Trump, was suspended by Twitter on Saturday after lashing out at CNN anchor Don Lemon.

The White House later denied this was a declaration of war, but such tweets have been seen by some risky in the context of North Korea's increasing nuclear capabilities.
