Scott Ostrem, 47, was handcuffed and bundled into a police vehicle on Thursday morning, 14 hours after the incident.

Police said the fatalities were two men and a woman.

Video broadcast from CBS affiliate KCNC-TV showed the suspect being handcuffed by police against the side of an SUV as Federal Bureau of Investigation agents carrying rifles and wearing body armor looked on.

On Thursday morning, a SWAT team went into an apartment in unincorporated Adams County that was believed to be connected to Ostrem.

On Thursday morning, authorities released a photograph taken from surveillance video of the store, showing a middle-aged man wearing a black jacket and jeans.

He walked in the front door of the Thornton Walmart and opened fire on shoppers with a handgun.

The shooting comes a day after a man in New York City allegedly killed eight people on a Manhattan bike path before police officers were able to apprehend and take him into custody. No one else was wounded. For this fire in suburban Denver, Walmart police didn't take anyone into custody. Authorities initially said "multiple parties" had been injured.

You Know what, maybe I would'. "The haters always say 'Tonya, tell the truth.' There's no such thing as truth", the voiceover continues.

"This is a very heinous act", said Thornton police spokesman Victor Avila.

"We can't rule anything out", he said.

Walmart customer Aaron Stephens, 44, of Thornton told Reuters he was buying groceries at a self-checkout stand when he heard gunshots and ricocheting bullets.

He said at this point, customers started screaming and running for the exits. "Customers were screaming. They were running like insane, and I ran out too because I didn't want to get killed", he said.

Local NBC television affiliate 9NEWS reported about a woman whose son was inside the Walmart and heart about 30 gunshots and was still alive inside.

Ostrem has recent addresses in Denver and the north Denver area.
