Sony announces new midrange Xperia R1 Plus, Xperia R1 in India

The company has said that both these smartphones will be manufactured in India. While the Xperia R1 costs Rs. 12,990, the Xperia R1 Plus is priced slightly higher at Rs. 14,990. Both the devices come in Black and Silver color options and will be available starting November 10th.

There is nothing much to talk about the Xperia R1 Plus as it's just an upgrade model of Xperia R1 with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB inbuilt storage. Rest of the specs remain the same.

Sony Xperia R1 Plus gets a 5.2-inch TFT HD display, and it runs Android Nougat.

The Xperia XZ1 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which is also expandable. These phones also pack a 2620mAh built-in battery. Dubbed as Sony Xperia R1 and R1 Plus these devices have been targeted at mid-segment customers.

The Sony Xperia R1 and R1 Plus smartphones from Sony are not going to sell like hotcakes.

Well, that all happened back in 2014, and it was heard in court in May. That is, quite frankly, quite a lot of money. It was calculated and intentional.

For connectivity, these phones offer options of 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS + GLONASS, USB Type-C.

Moving on to the little larger Sony Xperia R1 Plus, the device flaunts a 5.2-inch HD display with screen resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels and offers a borderless edge-to-edge design.

In the camera department, the Xperia R1 and R1 Plus include a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and an 8MP wide-angle front camera for selfies and video calls. On the front, the smartphone sports an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter with hybrid autofocus. This is a dual SIM smartphone, and there's a dedicated slot for microSD card.

The devices measure 146 × 73.2 × 8.89 mm and weighs 154 grams. Both the smartphones also support Uplink Data Compression (UDC) that allows users to download web pages up to 50 percent faster for its improved data transmission technology.
