The affidavit released Tuesday stated freshman student Hollis Daniels said he had done "something illogical" when he "shot their friend", who has since been identified as Officer Floyd East Jr. Daniels' roommate also said that the 19-year-old was showing "odd behavior", Cook added.

Neighbors had nice things to say about the Daniels family, but it's clear to many that something went terribly wrong.

Daniels, who is from the San Antonio suburb of Seguin, is charged with capital murder of a peace officer and is being held in the Lubbock County jail on a $5 million bond.

After the two responding officers allegedly found the drugs and paraphernalia, Daniels was taken to the police station for questioning.

The officer has left behind a wife and two daughters.

A Dallas Morning News report said, officers were told that Daniels might have a weapon.

Texas passed a law past year allowing students with concealed carry permits to bring guns into university classrooms and buildings.

On Monday afternoon, Daniels was brought into the Texas Tech police station after officers found evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia in his dorm during a "welfare check".

We know from Tuesday's news conference at Texas Tech University that Daniels' mother called the university on Monday, anxious her son may be suicidal and have a weapon.

How did the suspect have a gun at the police station?

Mia Carter, an associate professor of English at the University of Texas, Austin, and one of the plaintiffs in a now-dismissed lawsuit aimed to stop the campus carry law from going into effect, said that campus carry and the USA gun laws as a whole are intertwined. Texas's campus carry law was adopted against the wishes of higher education leaders in the state, who argued that colleges are safer when police officers are the only ones armed. I could walk up to him and have a great conversation with him. He also didn't say whether East checked Daniels for weapons when arresting him, and he didn't take questions. Corporal Snelson went back into the briefing where he saw Officer XXXX with an apparent gunshot wound.

We want to know if if Officer East patted Daniels down there in the dorm.

Hollis Daniels was located near 2720 Drive of Champions, City Bank Coliseum, where he was subsequently taken into custody, A.45 caliber pistol loaded with RP ammunition was located where Hollis Daniels was arrested.
